N0TICING NEWBIES NEWSLETTER

Noticing Newbies Newsletter is geared to help members get acquainted with Writing.com. There are many things to do and learn. Our goal is to help you make your time here more fun and manageable.

Each week we select and showcase new items (poetry, short stories, essays, campfires, polls, etc.). Exposure for an item (your writing) helps to bring you more rates and reviews by fellow members and the general public...of course depending on how much exposure you want your item to have. Some writers like to keep their work private. When your work does receive exposure, it also helps bring more member interaction, which will give you the opportunity to build new friendships. Remember, it is a two-way street, so try to make an effort to reciprocate reviews.

"There's someone that you haven't already met, go introduce yourself to him or her. Walls and labels can't keep you from the people who are so similar to you in spirit. There's a friendly face behind every door if you pick the right moment to knock. Once you start your wave of creative outreach, it turns into a contagious force. People are waking up and smiling at each other, sharing their dreams without hesitation. This community is worth something."

Hello Newbies!

It's that ghoulish time of year again to write a humorous poem or wicked scary story. Take the plunge and enter a contest!

There are many of you who enter a contest whenever you get a chance, and then many who do not because there is no interest or just don't have the time. And there are writers who are reluctant to enter contests because they feel they will not ever win, so why bother. Entering contests are more than winning a prize, it is getting your stuff out there for people to read.

Like anything else, if you want to be good at writing, than you have to write and contests are great practice! Competition can jumpstart your writing, increase your productivity, and will encourage you to produce a great piece of work or something entirely different that you thought you never had in you.

So, don't waste anymore time! Check out the following Halloween contests!

This is nice. I printed this out to try to understand it more. The song is cute. For some reason, I felt it was broad enough to be applied in any situation as for as accomplishing a dream or goal. Anyway, um, do you know by any chance to get an article in the associated press (AP) I have done a journalistic paper on it on a movie but I waited to long to query some newspapers or big magazines.
Well thankyou for this wonderful paper.

Sincerely
David Charles
P.S. Just wondering. Do you think I can place my article on this website so it can be reviewed.
dcuniversal

Thank you...it is actually a short script I found on the web. Hmmm, I would go on AP's website and do a search for submission guidelines or contact them directly. Absolutely! Create an item and copy your article into the body. Post away! *smile*

Howdy!

Is there any way to forward my writing.com e-mail to an outside e-mail address? If not, are there any plans to add this feature?
Thanks!

Not that I'm aware of...but, you may want to ask in the technical forum...see link:

"If you live to be one hundred, I want to live to be one hundred minus one day, so I never have to live without you."-Pooh. I Don't even think I need to justify myself here. Most beautiful, truthfull example of love.
eothyne

What an awesome quote...love it!

I love Pooh Bear. I'm a big fan of the stories, shows, and movies made with him and his friends. There is a simple and beautiful wisdom, so childlike and yet so deep, in the things he and his friends say to each other. When I read those stories, and watch those old movies, that wisdom (as well as the inherent fun and cuteness) just makes me enjoy everything I see. Thanks for including that passage. And great advice, as always.

Cheers!

I couldn't agree more. *smile*

hehehe, do I notice a 0 (zero) in your "N0TICING NEWBIES" title?

Hey Johnny! Well, ya know, it's tough to be perfect allllll the time. *grin*

I'm having trouble getting my biography on the correct portfolio. I have it on one but it doesn't show up on the one everybody sees. I also don't know how to post a contest. I don't understand how, though someone tried to explain.
And, I'm not getting much exposure of late. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Oh, and I can't get my favorites figured out. lonelyletters/Shancy Fayre.

Another wonderful newsletter !! I love your conversation between Pooh and Christopher Robin :). Your advice is excellent. I remember how much I appreciated the arrival of this newsletter with all of its useful information each Thursday just a matter of months ago when I was a new member and writer ! You do such a beautiful job creating an accessible informative
newsletter ! Great job, Laurencia

Thank you for such a wonderful review Gabriella.

Thank You, Laurencia, for posting the conversation between Christopher Robin and Pooh. I LOVED it! I've been feeling a bit lost lately with health issues to deal with, but your newsletter and that conversation really helped. I haven't written much in my book lately, but after reading your newsletter, I will find my way. I believe I have a unique story to tell, and I just need to do it. Plain and simple. Thank you.
chrisbuett

I hope you do write that story Chris, and thank you for your nice review.

Thank you all for taking the time to write in! Feedback adds that extra specialness.

See ya November 15th!

Laurencia
