Something mysterious is lurking out there ... just beyond the edges of your peripheral vision.  What is it?  Did that shadow move?  Is that cigarette smoke I smell?  Whose foorsteps are following me everywhere I go?  Eyes dart every which way, trying to catch a glimpse of the danger that lurks ... out there.

Such are the panicked feelings and thoughts of the victim in a mystery story...

With Cristmas only ten days away, the greatest mystery of all is whether or not I'll ever get my tree up in time for Santa to drop by and put presents under it! The demands of being a teacher, a mother, a private tutor, and basically chief cook and bottle washer doesn't leave much time for cleaning the house, decorating, wrriting Christmas cards and of course shopping for those all-important last minute presents. What is a body to do other than get completely stressed out and panicked?

Well, last night when I was rushing around trying to get everything done within a five minute time span that I possibly could, my five-year-old stopped me in my tracks and said, "You know, Mama, I don't think you need to get everything done before Christmas gets here."

I thought a moment, looking down into those two big blue eyes and asked, "Why not?"

She shrugged and said, "Well, since nobody was ready for the first Christmas, why should this year be any different?"

That really caught me off-guard. I think I scratched my head and asked, "What do you mean?"

She then replied, "Jesus was born in a barn, wasn't he? There weren't any rooms in the inn, right?"

I said, "Yeah, that's right."

"Don't you get it, Mama? she said. "Nobody was ready for Jesus to be born. They didn't have any decorations up for Him when He came to us, so whatever we can do for Him now before Christmas will be enough."

With that, she walked away and picked up a toy to play with, leaving me totally baffled by the her childishly youthful wisdom! I guess one never knows what one will hear coming out of the mouths of babes. But, I'll tell you this, what she said hit me hard and made me realize that I was getting too caught up in the Christmas hype instead of just letting Jesus come as a welcome guest into our house and hearts. Oh sure, I am still rushing around trying to get as much done as I can, but now I have a new outlook on the situation...anything I can't get done just won't get done -- that is until the week between Christmas and New Year'sSmile

Happy Holidays Everyone!
